The Finnish Calendar We Book Around

The Finnish year is punctuated in its own language and around its own light. Loppiainen falls in early January and Vappu on the first of May, which is the point at which the country decides spring has arrived. Juhannus, midsummer, takes both an eve and a day in the second half of June, and it empties the cities almost completely. Pyhainpaiva comes at the end of October, Itsenaisyyspaiva on the sixth of December, and Christmas runs from Jouluaatto on the twenty fourth through Joulupaiva and Tapaninpaiva. Midsummer and the Christmas week are the two stretches when Finnish clients most often ask to move a session.
