Lake Geneva grew up as a resort retreat on the shore of Geneva Lake, ringed by historic estates and the walkable Shore Path. With its spa culture, quiet coves, and lakeside strolls, the town has long drawn people looking to slow down, which pairs naturally with a mindful, holistic approach to wellbeing.
Summer fills the lakefront and the Shore Path, then October empties both and the town gets its winter quiet back. Attunement materials are digital and permanently yours, which makes the off-season a good stretch to sit with them. Nothing expires, and nothing has to be rebooked in spring.
The Potawatomi name for the place was Maunk-suck, after the leader called Big Foot, and the surveyor John Brink renamed it Geneva because it reminded him of Geneva in New York; the lake was added to the name to separate it from another Geneva in the state. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 wealthy Chicago families built summer estates around the shore, which is how it came to be called the Newport of the West, the Wrigleys and the Schwinns among them, and Conrad Seipp's Black Point house of 1888 is now a state historical society museum. The public Shore Path still runs in front of them. TSR, the original publisher of Dungeons and Dragons, was based here until 1997, and the first Gen Con met at Horticultural Hall in 1968.
