The community is a census boundary drawn inside Delta Charter Township in Eaton County, with no local government of its own, so schools, parks, police and roads all come from other units. Every address reads Lansing, Michigan 48917 even though the Lansing city line stops short of the community and the county underneath is Eaton, not Ingham. Michigan has two other Waverlys, both townships, one in Van Buren County and one in Cheboygan County, which is why this one usually travels with its county attached. The Grand River crosses the north-central part of the township, and the West Willow Canoe Launch puts paddlers onto it. For walkers there is something more unusual: the township publishes an Ultra Marathon Map Route, a continuous thirty-one to thirty-two mile walking route linking all seven township parks using nothing but public sidewalks and pathways.
