Grand Blanc Township wraps around the small City of Grand Blanc just south of Flint and is that city's largest suburb, its French name meaning 'Great White.' Settled in 1823 and organized in 1833 as Genesee County's first local government, it grew from farm country into a General Motors and health-care hub. Its Warwick Hills course hosted the PGA Tour's Buick Open for decades and now hosts the PGA Tour Champions' Ally Challenge.

The charter township's population was 39,846 at the 2020 census, the largest suburb of Flint. The railroad reached the township center in 1864, spurring growth; the separate City of Grand Blanc incorporated in 1930. Grand Blanc was even floated as a possible state capital site around Michigan's 1837 statehood.

A Grand Blanc Farmers' Market runs Sundays from May through October. Ascension Genesys Hospital (now operated as Henry Ford Genesys Hospital) is a major regional medical center and employer. The GM Heritage Center, housing General Motors' historic vehicle collection, relocated to Grand Blanc Township in 2023.
