Distance Reiki and made-to-order flower essence blends for Commerce Township, delivered across the lakes and parkland of northwestern Oakland County.
A lake-dotted township where water covers a measurable share of the land, and stillness is close enough to reach without leaving home.
Inland lakes cover roughly seven to eight percent of Commerce Township, and Proud Lake carries about twenty miles of trail along the Huron River. That much open water nearby tends to make a person protective of an unhurried hour. Sessions reach you at home, and essence blends are mixed in Michigan and posted out.
The river built this place before the lakes made it a destination. Abram Walrod arrived as the first settler in May 1824, with early pioneers coming largely from New York, and the township organized for self-government in 1834 after splitting from the original Novi Township. The Commerce Roller Mill, erected in 1837, used the Huron River to power lumber processing and flour grinding.
Proud Lake State Recreation Area covers roughly three thousand acres along that same river, with about twenty miles of trails. Dodge Park, 106 acres partly donated by the Dodge family, holds the 35,000-square-foot Commerce Township Library, which opened in 2017.
One township building carries a heavier history. The Foster Farmhouse, still standing, served as an Underground Railroad depot before and during the Civil War.
The West Oakland Railroad Museum keeps a 10,000-square-foot O-scale layout and a world-record longest model train of 1,205 freight cars and 26 locomotives. Commerce sits about thirty miles from Detroit and adjoins Walled Lake, Wixom and Wolverine Lake as part of Oakland County's Lakes Area, and the 2020 census counted 43,058 residents.
