Liberty is a home rule-class city and the seat of Casey County, home to 2,028 residents at the 2020 census. It sits in the middle of the county, in the valley of the Green River, at 810 feet of elevation. Its climate is classed Cfa, humid subtropical, which suits a practice built around flowers and plants.
Liberty keeps Eastern Time and uses area code 606, so a scheduled phone call reaches a Liberty household at a clear, agreed hour. Mail arrives under ZIP code 42539, so aura sprays and flower essences ship by post straight to a Liberty doorstep.
U.S. Route 127 runs through Liberty, reaching Danville twenty-six miles to the north and Russell Springs twenty-one miles to the south. Those two towns sit on either side of Liberty along the same highway, and Liberty keeps to its own stretch of that road. Revolutionary War veterans founded the town on their military grants, and they chose its name out of patriotic sentiment. The name honors an idea rather than a person, and Liberty has no published nickname or motto to go with it. That plain, abstract name suits a practice that reaches Liberty without any office or storefront in town.
