Safety Harbor sits on Old Tampa Bay above the Espiritu Santo mineral springs, whose waters have drawn seekers of restoration for generations and anchor the landmark Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. This town literally grew around wellness, making it a fitting home for holistic care.

Count Odet Philippe, a French nobleman, homesteaded here in 1823 and is credited with bringing the grapefruit to Florida. The springs site was made a national historic landmark in 1964 and a Florida heritage landmark in 1997. The town incorporated in 1917, which makes the European settlement itself almost a century older than the municipality.
