It is the main gateway to Point Reyes National Seashore, a park preserve of just over seventy-one thousand acres on the Point Reyes Peninsula, run by the National Park Service. Tomales Bay forms the park's eastern boundary: twenty-five miles long and about six thousand seven hundred and eighty acres of tidal water, lying along a submerged stretch of the San Andreas Fault.
