Bast, Goddess of Cats and Perfume, is part of the LightWorker Egyptian series, channelled and compiled by Elizabeth "Starlightowl" Hibel and dated November 2008. The manual opens with the Kemetic names she is known by, Bast, Ba en Aset, Bastet, Pakhet, Pasch, Ubastet and Ubasti, and sets her in the wider Egyptian pantheon with the creation story of Nun, Atum, Shu, Tefnut, Geb and Nut. Bast has been dated to at least the Second Dynasty, around 2890 to 2686 BCE.

She is the protector of cats, women and children, a goddess of sunrise, and over the centuries she also became known as a goddess of love, fertility, birth, music and dance. Her name is linked to the heavy perfume jars of Egypt, and her son Nefertem was a god of perfumes and alchemy. Her cult centre was at Bubastis, where more than three hundred thousand mummified cats were found when the temple was excavated, a measure of how completely cats were revered.
