Celtic Reiki is a variation of Usui Reiki that works with the vibrations of the Earth and of specific trees and shrubs, and it was channeled by Martyn Pentecost, a Reiki Master and teacher based in Croydon in the United Kingdom, with most of its frequencies coming through between 1998 and 2000.
He tells the story in his own words in the manual: on a winter visit to his ancestral Wales he found a huge silver fir split in two by a lightning strike, was guided to send Reiki to the fallen half, and felt the essence of the tree, its knowledge, energy, wisdom and love, enter him before he passed it to the standing half.
To remember that energy he gave it a symbol, and turning to the Ogham alphabet of his Celtic ancestors he found that the silver fir stood for the equivalent of the letter A and carried the meaning of seeing over long distances.
He then worked with the last letter, Y, the yew, at a Gloucestershire cemetery where ninety-nine yews grow and a hundredth will never take, and found an energy that guides a person past endings and through loss and change. Unlike Usui Reiki, which comes down through the Crown, Celtic Reiki is an Earth energy channeled up through the Base chakra, which makes it resemble Kundalini Reiki without acting on the kundalini.
Level 1 passes the energies in three attunements, the first introducing them, the second working with manifestation and the third with healing and master energies, in the distance course notes compiled by Pamela Jordan of Enchanted Earth in 2003.

How it is used:
Take the phone off the hook and find somewhere quiet where you can sit undisturbed for at least half an hour. Turn off the lights or draw the curtains, light a candle or incense if you wish, and play some relaxing music. Sit in a comfortable chair with your feet touching the floor and your hands resting palms up on your legs, close your eyes, and breathe deeply and slowly.
Each attunement takes about twenty-five minutes, and the manual advises leaving at least a week between them so the new energies can integrate. Afterwards drink plenty of water, eat fresh food rather than processed, and take a little more rest than usual while the cleansing works through.
