Butterfly Reiki Healing was channeled by Nicole Lanning in 2003 and expanded by her in 2007, both times while she was moving through a transformation in her own life. The system takes the butterfly as its teacher, because everyone at one point or another goes through some kind of transformation or metamorphosis, and that passage is exactly what this energy is built for.

The manual gathers the lore first: the butterfly as a symbol of freedom, creativity and soul evolution, as the cycle of birth, death and transformation in most cultures, as joy to the Native Americans, as young womanhood in Japan and as long life in China.

It then sets out the four stages of the butterfly totem, the egg, the larva, the cocoon and the breaking of the cocoon, and asks you to notice which stage matches the part of your life calling for attention.

Twelve named butterflies each carry their own attributes and color correspondences, from the Monarch's perseverance and progress to the Tree Nymph's clearing of obstacles and clutter, the Green Banded Swallowtail's self control and harmony, and the Zebra Longwing's wisdom, memory and liberation. Reiki I is recommended but not required, and the energy may be used on its own or alongside other energy work.

The attunement is a single session lasting about twenty minutes. In person, the one receiving sits with eyes closed while you call upon the light and energy of the butterflies, place both hands on their head and send the energy into the crown chakra, seeing it expand to fill them, then seal the crown with the system's own symbol.

To use the energy afterwards, simply name what you are doing, for example that you are now sending Butterfly Reiki Healing to a named person, and let it flow through the palms of your hands. When a particular quality is what is needed, visualize that butterfly first and call it by name as you begin.
