DeSoto sits about 12 miles south of downtown Dallas and grew from a 19th-century farming settlement on Ten Mile Creek. Incorporated in 1949, DeSoto became one of the nation's most prominent middle-class, majority-Black suburbs, and the city earned the All-America City title in 2006. Its slogan, Live, Work, Play in DeSoto, puts home, jobs and leisure inside one city's everyday rhythm.
DeSoto belongs to the Best Southwest, a coalition with Cedar Hill, Lancaster, and Duncanville, so daily life already links several neighboring suburbs. A distance session lets a DeSoto resident settle in at home, about 12 miles from downtown Dallas, without adding another stop to the day.
Ten Mile Creek gave DeSoto its earliest footing, when farm families built a settlement there in the 19th century. DeSoto produced NFL star Von Miller, the Super Bowl 50 MVP, a name that carries the city's reputation far beyond Texas. Its powerhouse high-school sports program is known nationally, which keeps the city's name in conversation well outside the Dallas area. That mix of farming beginnings and national sports attention makes DeSoto easy to recognize among Dallas suburbs. The creek, the farming roots and the football fame all belong to one place, and a distance session meets residents at home anywhere in DeSoto.
