Tualatin follows the winding Tualatin River south of Portland, centered on the lakeside Tualatin Commons and threaded with wetland trails and community parks. Its river-and-greenway setting gives residents an easy, grounded connection to nature and mindful living.
A mastodon came out of the ground here in the 1960s, and the town still marks that ice-age past alongside an August crawfish festival older than most residents. John Sweek built his house in 1858, though his wife Maria actually managed the building while he spent six years in Idaho. He sold land to the Portland and Willamette Railway in 1886, platted the north part of his claim and named the town.
