Harry D. Andrews came home from the First World War having seen the stone castles of Normandy, and in 1927 he started building one here above the Little Miami, gathering the stones out of the river himself. He was a Boy Scout leader and worked on Chateau Laroche for fifty years, until he died at ninety-one in 1981, leaving it to the Knights of the Golden Trail, who keep it still. The old rail corridor through town became part of the Little Miami Scenic Trail in 1984; the paved route now runs more than seventy-eight miles from Springfield in Clark County down into Hamilton County.
