Corydon sits in Harrison Township at the southern tip of Indiana, and the town wears two names easily. Neighbors know it as Indiana's First State Capital and as Historic Corydon, both fitting for a place founded in 1808. That long memory gives people here a steady pace worth supporting rather than hurrying.
Corydon serves as the county seat of Harrison County, so weekdays fill with county errands and other people's business. Essences and sprays reach your mailbox instead of adding one more stop to that list. A distance Reiki session asks only for a quiet room somewhere in Harrison Township, whenever you choose.
Corydon has carried the weight of Indiana's beginnings since 1808, and the town has never quite set it down. Delegates met here from June 10 to 29, 1816, writing the constitution that named Corydon the first state capital under Article XI, Section 11. The territorial capital had already moved here in 1813, and the state government stayed until 1825, when Indianapolis took the seat. In 1863 the Battle of Corydon became the only pitched battle of the Civil War fought on Indiana ground. All of that happened north of the Ohio River, where Harrison County still conducts its everyday business today.
