Sunnyvale is a Santa Clara County city of roughly 155,000 people that traded apricot and prune orchards for silicon chips. Today it anchors Silicon Valley, with Google, Apple, Amazon, LinkedIn, and Lockheed Martin Space all running large campuses in town.
Daily life in Sunnyvale centers on its large campuses, from Google and Apple to LinkedIn and Lockheed Martin Space. A session by distance fits around that routine, because you receive it from home without leaving town.
Sunnyvale once sat inside the Valley of Heart's Delight, the pre-tech Santa Clara Valley, and early-1900s boosters promoted it as Beautiful Murphy. Boosters of that era also used the nickname City of Destiny, long before the chip industry arrived. Atari later set up its headquarters in Sunnyvale, and in 1972 the first Pong prototype was tested in a local tavern. That history earned the city its reputation as the birthplace of the video game industry. Sunnyvale still wears the Silicon Valley name, a long way from the fruit orchards that came first.
