Flower Essences 101
Beginner · Self-Paced
Discover the foundations of flower essence therapy. Learn what flower essences are, how they
are traditionally used, and how to choose essences that may support emotional balance and
personal reflection. You will also prepare an essence of your own, start to finish.
The Complete ManualEvery module in one bound document, 77 pages,
all 38 Bach remedies, both preparation methods, and the 15 worksheets indexed as appendices.🔒 Included with the course
Before we begin. Flower essences are a complementary practice, traditionally
used to support emotional balance and self-reflection. They are not medicine, and they are never
a substitute for care from a licensed health professional. If you are unwell or in distress,
please speak with your doctor or a qualified practitioner first.
What you will learn
10 modules and 58 lessons, worked in order. About 5 hours 55 minutes in total, at whatever pace suits you.
1
What Flower Essences Are, and What They Are Not
25 min
A working definition: water-based preparations carrying the imprint of a flower, taken by drop.
How they differ from essential oils, the most common beginner confusion, given its own lesson.
What the tradition claims and what it does not, said plainly and early.
Where essences sit alongside counselling, bodywork and medical care. Complementary, never instead of.

Edward Bach: The Man and the Turning Point
35 min
Birmingham to London: the young doctor, and the seven years in general practice that shaped everything after.
The bacteriologist. His work on intestinal bacteria and the vaccines that carried his name, and the reputation he built before he walked away from it.
Homoeopathy and the Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital, where he met Hahnemann's writing and recognised his own thinking in it.
Nineteen thirty: he closes a Harley Street practice at the height of it and leaves London for Wales and the Welsh borders.
The last six years. Living simply, walking the hedgerows, and finishing the system in nineteen thirty-six, the year he died.
Why the story matters to a student: he was not a mystic who wandered in. He was an established physician who gave up a career because he thought medicine was answering the wrong question.

Bach's Idea: Feel Better, Heal Better
30 min
The observation that started it. Bach noticed that patients with the same physical complaint responded differently, and that what separated them looked emotional rather than physical.
His conclusion, in his own terms: that prolonged worry, fear, resentment or despair leave a person in a state of dis-ease, and that the physical often follows the emotional rather than the other way round.
What follows from that. If the emotional state settles first, Bach held, the person is in a better position for their own recovery to proceed. Feel better, and you are better placed to heal.
"The person, not the illness." Bach's own maxim, and why he chose remedies for the STATE a person is in rather than for a named condition, and why two people told the same thing by their doctor may be offered different essences.
Where this sits today. This is Bach's reasoning and the tradition built on it. It is presented here as his position, which is what you are learning. It is not a claim about what any essence will do for anybody, and it never replaces a doctor.
Making a treatment bottle: exact ratios, written as a procedure you can follow.
How often and for how long, and what "give it a few weeks" actually means.
Preservation, shelf life and storage, including who an alcohol-preserved essence may not suit.
Keeping a simple record, which matters more than any single selection.

Making Your Own Essence
50 min
Identify before you pick, and use your phone. A plant identification app narrows an unknown wildflower in seconds, and nobody can carry thirty-eight species in their head, let alone a whole meadow.
How to use an app honestly. It gives you a best guess with a confidence score, not a verdict. Photograph the leaf, the stem and the whole plant as well as the bloom, then confirm the name against a second source before you touch anything.
The rule that overrides the app: if you are not certain, do not pick it. Some plants are unsafe to handle, and a confident-looking wrong answer is worse than no answer.
Where you may and may not pick. Protected species, private land, sprayed verges and roadside edges.
The sun method, written as a step sequence you can follow outdoors.
The boiling method, for woodier material and for blooms that arrive when the sun does not.
From mother tincture to stock, with the actual dilution ratios.
Labelling and honesty, including why a homemade essence is never sold or offered to someone for a condition.

Your Own Practice, and Where to Go Next
25 min
Building a routine you will actually keep: small, repeatable, tied to something already in your day.
Reviewing and changing: when to stay with a selection and when to reconsider.
What this course did and did not qualify you for. You have learned to work with essences for yourself and to make your own. That is not the same as practising on other people, and the difference matters.
Where this leads, with honest signposting rather than a sales pitch.

Final quiz
20 questions across all 10 modules. Pass mark 70 percent, and you may retake it as often as
you like. The quiz is here to help the material settle, not to keep anyone out. Passing releases
your Certificate of Completion, issued in whatever name you give us. It records that you
completed this course. It is a starting point rather than a professional qualification, and it
does not qualify anyone to practise on other people. Further courses build on it.
Common questions
The five things beginners ask most often, answered before you decide.
What exactly is a flower essence?
A flower essence is a water-based preparation carrying the imprint of a flower, taken a few drops at a time. Module 1 gives you a working definition, then places essences alongside counselling, bodywork and licensed care as a complementary practice rather than something used in their place.
Are flower essences the same as essential oils?
No, and this is the most common beginner mix-up. Essential oils are concentrated aromatic plant compounds, usually inhaled or applied to the skin. Flower essences carry no aroma and are taken by drop. Module 1 gives the difference its own lesson and the final quiz asks about it directly.
How long does the course take to finish?
There are 10 modules and 58 lessons, about 5 hours 55 minutes of material in total. The course is self-paced with lifetime access, so you can work it over a weekend or spread it across several weeks. Module 9 also asks for outdoor time while a flower is in bloom.
Do I need to buy anything before I start?
Nothing is required to begin. Module 9 walks you through preparing an essence of your own from a flower you find, start to finish, using both the sun method and the boiling method. Module 8 adds a guide to where essences can be obtained if you would rather buy them.
What is the certificate, and what is it not?
Passing the 20-question quiz at 70 percent releases a Certificate of Completion, issued in whatever name you give us. It records that you finished this course. It is a starting point rather than a professional qualification, and it does not qualify anyone to practise on other people.
